About the Opportunity
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) combines Northeastern University's signature approach to experiential learning with liberal arts education, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement, both locally and globally.
The College comprises 17 academic units, including two schools, seven departments, and eight interdisciplinary programs, as well as 15 research centers and institutes. Responsibilities:
Northeastern University seeks to hire a full-time Digital Projects Archivist to support multiple projects housed within the newly reconfigured Humanities Center within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Some of the projects affiliated with the Humanities Center include the Digital Archive of Indigenous Language Persistence, the Digital Transgender Archive, the Early Black Boston Digital Almanac, the Early Caribbean Digital Archive, the Homosaurus, and Mapping Black London, as well as other projects. These projects share commitments to broadening and diversifying our knowledge of the past and present, including the lives of individuals and communities who are often left out of official archives. These projects invite creative engagement with archival resources and digital methods.
Reporting to the Director of the Humanities Center, Boston, and working closely with colleagues in the Digital Scholarship Group, the NULab, NU's Archives and Special Collections, and the Centers for Digital Scholarship, the Digital Projects Archivist will work across the digital archives projects affiliated with the Humanities Center to develop shared resources and approaches, such as metadata standards and best practices, project documentation, ethics guidelines, community partnership workflows, digitization plans, preservation and sustainability plans, and lab structures. This position will work across and within these digital archives, implementing the shared strategies as possible and facilitating increased collaborations and shared approaches. Some of the Digital Projects Archivist's work will also be allocated to grant-funded projects. The Digital Projects Archivist will also advise Northeastern faculty who are considering creating digital archives.
Northeastern University has a long tradition of innovation and leadership in the Digital Humanities, with a robust set of active projects and strong infrastructure to support ongoing and emerging work, including NULab and the Digital Scholarship Group. The NULab is an interdisciplinary center for faculty and student research in Digital Humanities and Computational Social Science. The Digital Scholarship Group is an applied research and development group in the Northeastern University Library, which provides guidance on digital tools and methods and also builds and supports infrastructure for digital scholarship. The Centers for Digital Scholarship is a newly created space within the library that offers Northeastern's digital projects a collaborative environment for research, mentorship, and learning. Within this landscape, The Humanities Center, which supports faculty and student research in the humanities and humanistic social sciences through programming, community-building, and seed funding, provides administrative and intellectual support for the digital humanities projects that will be supported by this position.

Qualifications:
- Master's in Library Science, advanced degree in a related area, or commensurate experience
- Extensive knowledge of digital archives, archival management, and emerging digital curation practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of digitization workflows and standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of metadata and archival description standards
- Working knowledge of intellectual property, copyright, and privacy issues related to digital collections
- Working knowledge of preservation, sustainability, and long term access, including use of DOIs
- Ability to work collaboratively across projects as well as with minimal supervision
- Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills
- 1-4 years experience working with digital archives or libraries preferred
- Preferred experience supervising student teams
- Preferred experience with project management
