Department Information: The Department of Communications has about 200 majors and is growing. Professors come to know students well and mentor students for success. We offer a B.A. degree with emphases in digital media, journalism, and public relations. The Department is also in the process of launching a Master's program. Position Description: Applications are invited for Lecturer in Communications with an emphasis in Digital Media beginning in August 2024. Besides teaching a broad range of courses in digital media, the successful candidate must demonstrate ability in teaching courses in the following areas: game design and analysis, 3D animation, audio/video production, broadcasting, sound design, interactive design, motion graphics, VR/AR, and cinema production. The appointee will also perform administrative duties as The Digital Equipment Manager. Digital Equipment Manager tasks include being available 8 hours per week to monitor, track and record use of digital media equipment, and serve as property custodian. Compensation for service as Digital Equipment Manager equivalent to one course per semester. The position offers full- time employment, equivalent to 15 WTUs each semester.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a graduate degree (M.A., M.F.A. or Ph.D.) degree in media arts or a related field. Candidates without a graduate degree must have strong record of professional experience in digital media. Demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduate students from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds, including first-generation students, is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates having prior teaching experience in digital media will be preferred in the selection process.

Rank and Salary: Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows:

  • Lecturer A: $4,530 – $6,056 per month
  • Lecturer B: $5,405 – $11,994 per month
  • Lecturer C: $6,190 – $13,172 per month
  • Lecturer D: $7,794 – $13,797 per month
