POSITION: Full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Film and Media Arts at Temple University
SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The department of Film and Media Arts seeks an accomplished Animation teacher and artist whose teaching will ground undergraduate and graduate students in a wide range of animation techniques and theory. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a comprehensive knowledge of the theory and craft of Animation in one or more of the following areas: character development, narrative storytelling, episodic streaming, short-form, feature film, and experimental methods.
Our department is committed to supporting students in developing their own unique voices as artists, and in creating new formal methods and narratives that challenge existing and historic approaches to the medium. Courses taught will range from introductory to advanced Animation courses. The candidate will be able to show expertise in at least two of following approaches: 2D, 3D, and/or Stop-Motion. The ideal candidate will be expected to advise and mentor students; maintain a visible profile of creative practice; and engage in appropriate service to the department, the university, and the profession. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate and graduate students for their BFA and MFA thesis projects.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should hold an MFA in Animation or Film Production with a strong Animation portfolio. A strong candidate will have a documented ability to explore formally and culturally diverse perspectives, solid teaching experience, and a clear commitment to creative evolution of the cinematic and animation form through their own and student work. Applicants should demonstrate comprehensive, expert level software knowledge of at least four of the following packages with a willingness to gain the skills to teach any of the packages: Adobe Suite, Blender, Maya, UnReal Engine, ToonBoom, Unity, Dragonframe, or ProTools.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Film & Media Arts Department is an internationally recognized program in independent narrative, documentary and experimental moving image forms. The program encourages a cross-disciplinary mix of theory and practice including hybrid and digital arts production and has a history of producing socially conscious filmmakers. The Department offers BA, BFA, MA, MFA, and PhD degrees. Film & Media Arts is a member of Temple's Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts, which includes the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts and the Boyer College of Music and Dance. It is located on the University's main campus in the culturally rich and diverse city of Philadelphia.
