Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University is on the lookout for a dynamic and creative Digital Content Strategist to join our Department of Marketing and Communications. If you have a passion for storytelling and a knack for creating engaging digital content, this might be the perfect opportunity for you!
As a Digital Content Strategist, you will bring an audience-first approach to planning and overseeing the content strategy, requirements, and deliverables that support EWUs brand across web, social media, and other digital platforms. This role will be pivotal in:

  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive content strategy for the EWU brand.
  • Creating targeted and differentiated user-centric narratives and content journeys, including compelling calls-to-action.
  • Maximizing the impact of content through analysis, writing/editing, usability, and project management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Create, edit, and optimize web content that aligns with EWUs brand, SEO best practices, and accessibility standards.
  • Conduct UX audits and use data-driven insights to improve navigation, user engagement, and site performance.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic content map to ensure consistency, enhance discoverability, and boost SEO across 1,000+ webpages.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to provide training, troubleshoot issues, and maintain high-quality content using WordPress.
  • Support email marketing and storytelling efforts by developing cohesive, audience-focused campaigns aligned with institutional goals.

  • Passion: A genuine passion for storytelling and the ability to juggle multiple tasks effectively.

  • The salary range for this position is $55,272 - $74,376. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, or an
    equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in marketing, journalism, and/or communications.
  • Proven experience in web content management and or digital marketing.
  • Previous experience with Google Analytics and SEO tasks, including keyword research
    and content optimization required.
  • Strong understanding of SEO principles and best practices, including keyword research
    and content optimization.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and content management systems like WordPress;
  • Excellent writing and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple
    projects simultaneously, including both short and long-term efforts, and meet deadlines
    in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate across multiple departments and functional
    areas.
  • Proven diplomacy and ability to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and
    technical abilities.
  • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting universal accessibility, cultural competency and/or diversity

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience conducting UX content audits, to improve website usability and drive conversions.
  • Familiarity with SEO writing and analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated success writing content for websites.
  • Experience with email marketing automation platforms like Mailchimp, Salesforce, etc.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and experience ensuring web content meets ADA compliance requirements.
  • Experience working in higher education or the public sector.

Job Duties:
Content ManagementPromote EWU through the creation of consistent, high-quality digital contentdevelopment in support of University priorities and brand initiatives.
Write, edit, optimize, and update new and existing web content for accuracy, clarity,
consistency, grammar, style guidelines, SEO, and strategic messaging.
Work collaboratively with campus partenrs in meeting strategic marketing, enrollment,
and reputational goals.
Consult with departments on the most efficient means of producing work submitted,
adhering to ADA standards and identifying and rectifying errors.
Strategically map and link website content across our pages to optimize navigation,
improve SEO, and enhance overall site coherence and discoverability.
Use appealing and cohesive visual design within the CMS to enhance the EWU brand
and showcase student, faculty, and alumni accomplishments that reflect our core values.
Appropriately resize and manage visual assets for the web including photos and video.
Collaborate with MarCom writers to ensure consistency in written content, maintaining
brand voice and messaging across platforms.

User Experience and Content Strategy
Conduct UX content strategy audits to enhance the overall user experience and guide
users through the conversion funnel effectively.
Assist in analyzing and reporting on web traffic and UX data from Google Analytics,
conduct SEO and keyword research, and leverage other analysis/testing tools to assess
content performance.
Provide comparative analysis with our competitors and suggest improvements.
Assist our social media and editorial teams in cross-linking content for better organic
search results.
Use basic HTML to develop and manage page and email templates for departments,
ensuring compatibility and functionality across platforms.
Familiarity with WordPress or other CMS platforms.
Resolve issues with links, report bugs, promptly
Keep current on higher education market trends, audience preferences, best practices,
and emerging technologies and platforms to keep marketing approaches relevant,
competitive, and leading edge.Percent of Time: 25



E-Marketing Content
Assist in editing cohesive storytelling and content for social media platforms and email
marketing campaigns, aligning with overall digital strategy and goals.
Manage Marcom Mailchimp accounts and support, train and oversee department email
communications and coordinating e-blasts.

Web Request Handling
Act as a primary point of contact for incoming web requests, managing inquiries from
various stakeholders and providing timely assistance.
Provide digital content best practices, accessibility standards, technical support, and
training to website partners to manage content effectively.
Create and maintain training documentation and best practices.

Conditions of Employment:
  • During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16.
